I've been astonished to find that many Notes users don't have access to the Workspace by default. Most of my life life in Notes is lived out of this view, and I can't imagine working without it.
(By the way, it sure looks like one of the smartphone manufacturers in Cupertino has copied this same tile-style interface in their shiny, cool "i" devices. I'm just saying).
Here's how to get the Workspace if you don't already have it:
1) Enable bookmarks, if you haven't already
(See here for my earlier blog post on three steps to get the most out of bookmarks).
To enable bookmarks, select View > Dock the Open List
2) Open the Workspace from your bookmarks menu
Select the "Applications" bookmark. This is indicated by the red arrow below.
3) Set the Workspace as your home page (optional, but highly recommended)
Select the "Applications" bookmark
Right-click the Workspace
Select "Set Bookmark as Home Page"
If you don't want it as your home page, you can also just drag the Workspace tab onto the bookmarks bar to create a bookmark to it.
4) Customize your Workspace to group your apps in the best way for you
To start with, you'll probably have just one page on your Workspace -- but the cool thing is, you can organize all your apps into pages in whatever way makes most sense to you.
To create a new page, right-click the header of your Workspace and select "Create Workspace Page."
You can modify the titles and colors of your existing pages by selecting "Workspace Properties."
Have fun with that!
