From my colleague, Robert Peake:
Define: "Centralized Meta-Referencing with Distributed Awareness"
I'll post the answer soon. I want to give folks an opportunity to figure this one out. It had me stumped for a while.

Anyone?

"Awareness" is a red herring... everyone automatically thinks of IM nowadays. I'm thinking that this could be a jargon-tastic description of nothing more than replication.

Then again, I could be very wrong (and probably am!) ;o)

You know Ben, I thought the same thing! "Replication"

But, now I need another idea. Searching Robert's site for 'meta' resulted in a Billy Connolly hit! So that doesn't help (unless Billy Connolly is the answer)!

How about... nope, nothing is coming. So "replication" it is!

If it's from the past and relatively unknown, then I'm tempted to say that it's an attempt to use as many buzzwords as possible to describe the Subscriptions feature that has been in Notes for the better part of a decade, but nobody actually uses.

But if it's contemporary, I'd go with Activity Explorer, even though it's only indirectly a Notes thing.

It's not domain search is it?

It’s not domain search

But it is a power feature of Notes, one that's been around for a long time, loved by those who understand, and misunderstood or unknown to many.

I hope I'm not confusing. No more clues tonight.

Enjoy.

PS. Do not try to read into my comment - there are no hidden clues there.

Document Links/View Links?

Indeed, Doclinks are a part of the puzzle...

Nice work Lars...

Can you (or anyone else) figure out the rest?

My best bet would be something about Dogear and the notes:// reference perhaps?

Sounds like you talk about the subscriptions (a.k.a. headlines.nsf) that allow you to be aware of content that might change in your applications. Is build into the IBM templates (discussion, doclib) but hardly found in custom apps.

:-) stw

We'll if Lars is half right with doc / view links the distributed awareness must refer to the fact links can don't just work with with a the specific database the originated with, but can open a doc/ view in another replica.

Newsletter subscriptions?

The Notes client uses the domain catalog to find the "best" - whatever that means - db replica for a given doclink?
